I am fascinated by the steampunk style. I'm not much for Victorian costumes, but I adore everything with that steampunk touch (for costumes and jewelry and whatnot, I'm not so much a fan of the steampunk literary movement). I also found myself suddenly falling in love with Dickens after finding steampunk.
Steampunk is a bit edgy, and strange, and lovely, while containing all the best bits of the mechanical age (gears are just overlooked in a century of microchips) but not neglecting the more organic aspects. Oh, and I like mad science, because it pokes fun at a science that often takes itself much too seriously. My amateur prediction is that steampunk will gradually be accepted and eventually there will be a sort of steampunk available in malls and whatnot, in much the same way that punk has become somewhat mainstream.
