Red Riding Hood
Jun. 29th, 2010 07:31 pmI am, like the Elephant's Child, filled with 'satiable curiosity. This explains why I watched this version of Red Riding Hood. It is a musical. From the 1980s. Actually, it was rather amusing. The wolf is sort of a werewolf, and has the best songs. However, there is one scene that I found somewhat disturbing, because it was the scene where the wolf has eaten Red Riding Hood, and then the woodcutter comes in a chops open the wolf's stomach to rescue her. Out of all the changes to make to the story, why leave that intact? It is also the only scene where the werewolf is a badly made up man. The wolf is also quite obviously a dog, which is much better at least than a man in a wolf costume, which is never done well (even Buffy, which has rather good monsters, fails when it comes to werewolves). Only watch it if you have a high tolerance for the cheesy sort of musical fairy tale (think Shelley Duvall's Faerie Tale Theatre, not Jim Henson's The Storyteller, and certainly not Jean Cocteau).
